Starting Your Day with Lemon Water
What is the first thing that you put into your body every morning? After an eight-hour fast the very first thing that goes into your body really does matter. It sets the tone for the day, and gives your body a foundation to function on. As your body is made up of 70% water it only makes sense to replenish with this vital nutrient. So what is up with the lemon water craze? Adding lemon to your morning water is basically just boosting your glass of water with extra health benefits.
Lemons help balance the PH levels in your body, which is necessary for a healthy functioning body. They are full of vitamin C and potassium, vital nutrients for body and brain health. Additionally lemons will help flush out any unwanted toxins that have built up in your body by increasing the hydration rate and assisting in your bodies natural flushing.
Some believe in warm water with lemon in the morning hours. I believe that any water that is room temperature to warm/hot will work all the same. The only thing that I stray away from is cold water, as it is harsh on the digestive system and after a long nights rest the body needs warming up and a gentle start to the day. Give it a try for a few days and see how you feel! Soon I believe that it will become as essential to waking up as your cup of morning coffee.
My morning lemon water routine:
1. Boil water in kettle
2. Mix 1/3 hot water 2/3 cold water in 16oz glass
3. Add about 2 tsp of lemon juice to water
4. Use remainder of hot water in kettle for your favorite tea
